home links other contact welcome to ombc! welcome to my little corner of the interwebs. i can't promise you'll find anything of interest on this site, as it is, after all, a personal site. my hope is to "blog" about stuff i do, but if the past is anything to go by i tend to forget! upgrades 2010-08-18 23:25:01 after much procrastination i have finally upgraded to a windows 7 professional 64 bit laptop. what i find most surprising, apart from the wonders of 8gb of ram, is that windows 7 is not annoying. i am, it shames me to confess, feeling a bit of a fanboi. i'll get over it, hopefully i've also upgraded from my old blackberry curve to an htc desire. what a phone! the wifi works consistently, which was my major gripe with the curve. there is no proxying of the internet on the other side of the atlantic, so it actually runs at something approaching bearable speeds, and it has a gorgeous screen. oh, and a browser that's mostly standards compliant, has actually heard of javascript, and runs it faster than blackberry sedated glacier speed. okay, the keyboard's not as easy to type on as the blackberry's, but i think i can live with it when up against the ghastly browser that blackberry lumber you with. and no, opera mini was just not good enough. yes, yet another redesign! 2009-04-29 07:51:18 in truth it has been a couple of years since i last changed the site. this time around i have gone for a very minimalist layout, as i felt the previous incarnation was rather "busy". this "version 4" of my site serves all content from a database, to simplify maintenance (at least i hope it will!). previously i have only stored some of the content in a database, requiring me to edit pages manually to correct spelling mistakes, etc. i've also cut down on the amount of css involved. the new css file is less than half the size of the previous version. in part this is due to a more efficient implementation, but largely down to having far fewer "fiddly bits" such as complicated menus and framing. this site has been test driven in firefox (3.0.7), opera (9.64), chromium (pre-beta!), blackberry (4.6.1.133) and ie7 (7.0.5730.13). needless to say it renders well in standards-compliant browsers... well actually it looks fine in ie7 too, somewhat surprisingly. one wonders what "standards-compliant" ie8 will do to it... okay, i'll admit to being surprised here. ie8 actually draws this page the way a standards-compliant browser does. freaky, huh? © 2009 ombc.co.uk some rights reserved. content on this site is licenced under a creative commons licence . the source code for this page was last modified on 08 may 2017. this page has been served 4305 times.
